DOGS WITH ADOPTION PENDING
"Adoption Pending" means simply that these dogs already have approved applications to adopt them, and they're in their prospective adoptive homes on a trial basis to verify that they'll get along with and be accepted by all other occupants of the home. At this point in the process, the dog is considered adopted.

Casey
|
OK, so who out there has a foot fetish? I like to lick toes, and if I can't lick yours, I am happy to lick mine! My name is Casey and I was adopted from VGSR as a little pup and then returned to the rescue when my folks moved to Florida. I am an excellent watch dog with a bark that would discourage any intruder! I love to go for walks, but I will admit that I get pretty excited for the first couple of blocks! I live with a bunch of other dogs, but to be honest, I would prefer to have someone all to myself. Curling up by your feet and watching TV with you would make me a happy girl. I am totally housebroken, do not chew (but remember, I like to lick feet!) and will do my best to be excellent company for you. For more information on this dog, please contact gsdhouse@comcast.net SLVA Adopted 7-2910.

Cullen
|
Hello Everyone!!! I'm Cullen, and I am super sweet and bad to the bone! No really, I am the MAN! My people feed me, take me out when I want, play with me when I want, I basically make all the rules around here. Okay maybe not all the rules, but I think I have them pretty trained if I do say so myself! I have the "cute factor," and boy do I know how to use it. I'm going to be a big boy. My mom is a typical GSD, and my dad was a Rottie, so it's a good indication I will be at least 80 lbs. I will be attending area adoption events and hopefully I will meet my new family very soon. I hope they spoil me too. I'm crossing my paws. Approved applicants please contact my foster parents at gsd4kiba@gmail.com to meet me! FDVA 7-27-10.

Juelz
|
Juelz is a gorgeous sable colored 3 year old male shepherd that was given up to the Roanoke animal shelter. He is a very large, handsome, easy tempered boy that has been a wonderful dog in his new foster home. He is very gentle natured, loves people and kids, is friendly and social with all the dogs he has met in his foster home and on his recent trips to the dog park. He loves to roll over and let you give him belly rubs. Juelz is house trained, and although doesn’t love he tolerates being crated. He knows basic commands although he is a little lazy in responding to them sometimes. He is a big guy with a very deep bark that rattles the windows when a stranger knocks at the door, but he has been a nearly perfectly gentleman around the house in his foster home. Juelz is only fair on a leash as he wants to pull, but we are working on that and he is showing signs of progress in this area. Although he hasn’t shown it in his foster home, his previous handlers said he is a bit of an escape artist if he gets agitated. Juelz does have some fear issues when he encounters new situations or loud noises and especially when he is taken for a walk in a wide open space that he is not familiar with. His foster dad has been working building Juelz trust and confidence and has noticed improvement in the short week he has been in foster care. Juelz needs to go to a home that has the patience to work with him in continuing his confidence building to make him the wonderful gentle boy that he truly is.

Major
|
“Hi, I'm Major! At 8 years old, I am a veteran, but I am not retired!!
I’m a big guy, weighing in at about 110lbs of first-class black and red pure German Shepherd dog. I’ve spent most my life on the front lines, tied up at my barracks in a far away back yard. My foster dad says that now I deserve a cushy job inside his headquarters with my choice of bunks - anywhere I please!!
I love hanging around my 2 sisters, a sassy German Shepherd and a little gal called Jacki Russell. We spend lots of time playing tag and practicing our wrestling moves then we kick back and watch some TV. There was a Pomeranian here for a couple weeks; boy did I go for her! I’ll let you in on a secret too. It’s highly classified info, but, I get along with cats too!! (Don’t tell the other dogs!)
I’m fully vetted and neutered and now I’m looking forward to my forever home and, heck, I think I’ll retire there. I love going for walks, and I won’t pull. I stay so close to my foster dad and my sisters, I don’t even have to wear a leash. I don’t like to brag, but, when the mission calls for it, I also heel pretty good on (and off) a leash. I can sit, stay, lie down, and shake hands with the best of them. I’m housebroken and don’t trash stuff when left alone. I just lay around and catch some ZZZZs while you go to work.
I’m an affectionate guy and will give kisses… but only if you want them.
If you are looking for a walking or jogging buddy...then I’m your guy. Drop on by to see me at one of the platoon’s “meet and greets.” You can also contact my foster dad at hersh248@verizon.net He says I’m an AWESOME guy and will make someone, or some family, a super companion." Martha
|
Meet Martha: to know her is to love her. She is our resident drama queen. If her bowl is empty, she flips it over with her paw with a resounding clatter and looks at you for a reaction. Martha is a velcro GSD and very affectionate. She rubs on you like a cat. She talks that GSD talk and is very opinionated. As mentioned, she loves people but was snappy with her canine foster brother at first, but has made her peace with him. Martha has separation anxiety. She is not destructive when left alone, but she will pace so much that she wears out her hips, so she is crated when no one is home so she won’t pace so much. Martha is middle aged (between 5-8). She recently had a tumor removed and is recovering nicely. She is obedient, has wonderful house manners, and walks well on a leash. She loves short walks, eating, and watching TV. Her favorite programs are on the food network. She would probably be happiest as the only dog or with an omega male in a relatively quiet home. Her shelter said she is good with cats. She is being fostered in the Shenandoah Valley, west of Charlottesville. For more information on Martha contact joyce4gsd@yahoo.com

Trixana
|
Update 7-6-10.
Trixie has made great strides in her housebreaking. She will now signal by running back and forth between us and the door.
We’ve discovered that Trixie is an incredibly playful little girl. Of all the toys scattered around the house she picked out a red rubber ball as her special toy. She carries it everywhere and she love to play catch outside. Sometimes it’s a challenge to get her to return the ball for another throw but once she does she loves to tear across the yard to get that ball again!
She loves to be with her family and join in all activities. Trixie is a sweet, cheerful and devoted companion. Her foster family has found her to be a joyful friend and very easy to care for.
This long haired beauty is Trixana, known as "Trixie" to her friends. Just over 3 years old, she was pampered by her former owners. When they unfortunately developed health issues, they chose to surrender her to VGSR to ensure that she would continue to be spoiled by a loving family! Trixie lived in her own spacious accommodations outside of the main house, and was not housebroken. She is improving in this area, but still has occasional accidents. Since she is accustomed to spending a lot of time outdoors, she loves to race the wind! She is a magnificent runner and a sight to behold as she flies across green pastures! She is fully trained on an electric fence, and stays within the fence border perfectly regardless of how fast she is running or what temptation is beyond. She is very frisky, and we believe that she would chase cats given any opportunity. She can hold her own in a game of catch outdoors, and loves to play with squeaky toys in the house. Trixie is fascinated by all of the new sights and sounds she has encountered since leaving her prior home, so she is constantly on the move trying to absorb all of the new experiences. When she is inside she is happy to lay quietly close by the rest of the family, but at the same time she is always very alert. She knows basic commands like ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘come’. She needs further training on a leash. She is a very loving and sweet little girl, weighing just 60 pounds. She seems to adore children. She is crate trained and rides nicely in the car. Approved adopters can contact her foster family at calico99@shentel.net NEVA Adopted 7-26-10.

Winslow
|
Winslow is a great little guy, curious about everything around him! He loves to run and play with his brother Wesley! It is so fun to watch him get down on his front paws in wait of his brother to "jump" him! Winslow, like his brother Wesley is very smart and learning very quickly! Come and see just how cute "puppy" can be! He would love to be in a home that will keep him active and work with training him to become the wonderful dog I know he can be! If you are an approved adopter with Virginia German Shepherd Rescue and would like to meet Winslow, contact his foster mom at sandal@frontiernet.net MSWV Adopted 7-30-10.
