Hello!  My name’s Alice, although my foster dad says I’m more an “Ally”.  I like my nickname – it’s spunky, like me!  I may be small to some people’s eyes, but I am big on personality.  I love to play ball, run and swim.  I am a precocious 6 year old, full of energy and love.  I like smaller dogs and all kids.  I will need a dog-savvy family as I will lead the pack if you don’t.  I am very happy to hang out with you and get ear rubs and tummy scratches, but enjoy going for a jog or a dip in a pool, pond, or any body of water.  Wanna play? Anastasia is a young girl, between 1 and 2 years old.  She was surrendered by someone who just kept her tied up outside and didn't pay much attention to her.  It's a shame because she's a wonderful girl, very friendly.  She loves people and other dogs, but is probably not cat friendly.  She was scared at her first adoption event, but she soon realized that all those people were there to see her and she settled down and enjoyed herself.  She needs all forms of training, but she's smart and doesn't seem to have that defiant streak that some shepherds display.  You can contact Ana's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions.

Bear is a great little puppy - full of energy and excitement. It is hard to believe no one has snatched him up yet! He is a mix, not sure with what, but possibly Lab. He loves running around with his 7 year old foster GSD brother. He is still working on his housetraining, but is coming along well with it. He is currently learning to ring a bell to let us know he has to go out. He has learned "come", he comes when you clap 2 times, "sit", "down", "roll over", and "paw", but he still needs to master those last 2 commands. He "waits" for his food to be put his bowl until told to eat. He absolutely LOVES the leash and going for walks. He needs some leash training since he just wants to run. I think he'd make a great jogging buddy. When you throw him the tennis ball, he brings it back and lets you take it. He is learning to drop it on his own. He is crate-trained and doesn't mind being in it. He has been to the vet and impressed the doctor with how calm he was, even when getting his nails clipped. He loves belly rubs and nuzzling into your lap to be pet. His fur is so soft, especially along his back where it is wavy. He would love to be in a home that will keep him active and work with training him to become the wonderful dog I know he can be! I'm Bella, your neighborhood watch dog.  I am an excellent deterrent.  If I see movement, you'll know.  Unknown noise? I'm on it! UFO's? I'll see them, nothing gets past me!  So okay it's a slight problem of mine, but I'm working on it. What do you expect?  I'm a pure bred, papers and all, it's in my blood.  Treats and praise and I'm putty in your hands after about a half an hour.  So I need a little patience and a bit of time, and then you will never get rid of me.  I love my foster parents, adore my foster brothers, and absolutely love going biking!  I have a lot of energy and love to play ball or anything else I'm allowed to chew on.  I'm still learning my basic commands, I guess I get a little distracted since I'm on watch dog duty.  I'm a little too smart for my own good and it can get me in trouble, so I need someone who will keep me active and learning.  I hope to find that someone very soon.  Approved adopters please contact my fosters at gsd4kiba@gmail.com.  FDVA

Bob, even though he has limited vision, is the watch dog extraordinaire.  From what we can tell, he can see things directly in front of him, but his peripheral vision is lacking.  He is very friendly and affectionate once he knows you, but a stranger should not enter your home without an escort, or Bob will right on the job.  He gets along well with female dogs, even playing and flirting with them, and he got along OK with Remo and Maximus -  But he can have an attitude with some male dogs. He has made tremendous improvement in his ability to get along with other dogs since he arrived here in December.   He loves trips down to the river and stays close by your side.  Bob is a good rider in the car and well behaved in the house while we are at work.  He loves to play with balls and even throws them for himself in our backyard.  He does not mind going into the crate and even curls up in there to take a nap once in a while.  He has KEEN hearing and will bark at any dog hears on TV.  Please contact gsdhouse@comcast.net for additional information.   SLVA

Back home everybody called me Miz Brandy Lynn, but, please, just call me Brandy.   I think it helps keep folks from getting the wrong impression of me.  One look at me and they just jump to conclusions, calling me a Princess.  I’m just trying to do like my Momma taught me.

Honestly, I don’t know what all the fuss is about.  I mean, you can’t expect a girl like me to live like a dog!  I was raised in a house and I expect to live in a house.  Sure, sure, I’ll go out when I need to and I’m always happy to help a person look good when they take a walk around the neighborhood, but air conditioning is not optional.  Nice comfy sofas and fluffy beds with lots of pillows, that’s the life for me!

I turn heads everywhere I go and I DO like to go.  Anytime I can get my driver to take me around town I jump at the chance.  Actually, truth be known, I jump into anything with wheels and an open door.  After all, take a good look at me – it would be very selfish of me to keep these good looks under wraps. And I am not one of those that like to hang their head out the window and make a big commotion over every little thing I see. I prefer to lounge quietly for the entire excursion; you know, just see and be seen.  I like to think of myself as an ambassador for the German Shepherds of America.  Looks, intelligence and a winning personality - my, my, I AM hard to resist, if I do say so myself.

Gather round, gather round now, I’ll be happy to pose for pictures. The autograph thing is a bit tricky for me, so if you have your heart set on one of your very own, please speak with my agent.  She’ll set something up.  cbbrewster@gmail.com  BCVA

Hope to meet ya’ll real soon!

Buck is an amazingly sweet and gentle dog. His beautiful brown eyes expressively portray his compassion and kindness.  He lived with his only owner, an elderly gentleman, for eight years until his owner just could not comfortably take care of sweet Buck any longer.  Buck was timid at first, but within a week he quickly and happily adjusted to his new foster home.  He loves cuddles and being pet.  He loves to give kisses, but is not overly slobbery with his affection. He enjoys looking out the window and occasionally will voice his presence to passers-by.  Buck is extremely gentle on a leash.  He is house trained and does not get into much trouble at home- though he definitely enjoys roaming free in the house. Don't try to tempt him with those baby gates because he will either jump right over them, or bring them down...his sole purpose in doing this is to share cuddles and kisses with his owner!  He will, however, show you exactly what he's done with pride.  His mischief is minimal; his love is immense. Buck is playful but doesn't need a whole bunch of toys- he is just happy to be pet and played with. He is timid around overly loud noises (such as my old dishwasher) but he reacts by staying close to his caregiver.  Buck is a loving dog and deserves to be with people who will be loving with him! Please contact me at dshenoy30@gmail.com if you have questions or want to make Buck a part of your family. SDIVA

Cagney was left in an overnight "drop box" at a shelter in rural Virginia.  Nothing else is known about his past but one can speculate since it is rumored he was brought to the shelter in the trunk of a car and he cringes when you try to touch him.  He came to his foster home very dirty and very scared and covered in fleas and ticks; however, that hasn't hindered this sweet boy's quest for love.  He bonds quickly and is very smart and inquisitive.  He is excellent with other dogs and cats and is fully house trained, but he is afraid of his crate - which is fine, as he has great house manners.  Cagney is very quiet inside and would do well in an apartment or condo as long as you are able to give him a good walk twice a day.  He is very skinny and needs to gain a good amount of weight as well.  Cagney will need a patient family who can help boost his confidence and lower his anxiety.  All around a wonderful boy who deserves nothing but the best. Carina was pulled from a puppy mill where she and her sister, Camryn, were used to breed.  She has never lived indoors and is learning how to be an indoor companion.

Carina's new foster mom is going to teach her basic obedience and work on her housebreaking.  Carina walks well on a leash, but could use a little more work not wrapping around your legs.  She is great with other dogs and could use another dog in the household to teach her about all the new, fun things that the indoors can offer.

She is a friendly, calm girl that is enjoying human attention.  She will make a great companion for a patient, understanding family.

Check back for more updates on Carina's progress.  She is going to be attending Staunton and Harrisonburg Adoption Days...so come by and see her!

Colby is a sweet little girl, probably less than a year old, maybe 8-9 months? She isn't a pure bred German Shepherd, but she is certainly mostly some sort of shepherd.  She is cute, smart, and very quick to get with the program in a new environment.  She is fine with being crated, but she is ready to get out and go at any time.  Colby is good with other dogs and was reported by the prior owner to be good with kids and cats as well.  She was given up because the owner had no fence and Colby was constantly going over to play with the neighbor's kids and in the neighbor's pool.  She has no leash training or any sort of training to speak of, but she is smart and seems to be eager to please.  She is not going to be a very big girl and she has a shorter, smoother coat than most shepherds, so she shouldn't shed quite as much.  You can contact Colby's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions.

Update - July 25, 2010 - for approximately the next week, Colby is vacationing in Sterling, VA.  For more information on Colby, please e-mail: PMcGill520@aol.com.

Hi, my name is Duchess, and my foster mom says I’m easy-breezy to care for.  I’m a perfect lady in the house.  I don’t try to get up on furniture and I haven’t had any accidents.  Mostly I just calmly hang out with my people nearby.  Someone’s almost always home here and that makes me happy.

I really love to go for walks and I ride very well in a car.  I’m totally comfortable meeting people of all ages.  I've even met a few cats and I liked them just fine.  Mom thinks I probably lived with kids and a cat sometime in my past.  No one knows for sure because I was dropped off at a shelter without much information.  And we’re not sure about my age.  The vet thinks I’m about 8, but nobody guesses that when they meet me.

I’m currently living very happily with another Shepherd, but I need to work on my manners with meeting dogs I don’t know. Mom says I sometimes act much too assertively when meeting other dogs.   I might be able to live in a house with another dog, like I do now, but it will depend on our personalities.

I’ll be at adoption events in Springfield, so come out and say hi. DiNVA

My history has baffled everyone. I was rescued from a shelter when I was 4 months old, scared to death of everything. I've been in rescue for a long time, with a couple of visits to other homes but end up coming back to my foster home. Here is the thing, I'm a very, very nervous boy that does well with women, but no children. Men tend to frighten me, too. I've been looking for that special place to call my own, foster mom says that the right place is out there and will take time. My foster mom requests that anyone that might be interested in meeting me be at an adoption event event followed by several other meetings afterwards to gain my trust before she will let me to placed in another home. Jake, is a pure bred Belgian Malinois, who is looking for a experienced owner who knows the breed. He is intelligent, eager to please, focused, sensitive and happiest when he is utilizing all of his energy.  He is leery when he first meets strangers, which is a typical Malinois trait.

He loves to grab your hand / arm for attention, so he needs a home with no small children. Jake needs his human(s) to be the pack leader(s) or he will assume the role himself. He is working on his dog social skills and learning to understand when another dog is telling him “no”. He lives with his foster pack, but needs constant monitoring. He plays great with his foster sisters. But will react aggressively to his foster brothers since he a dominant male.

He was turned into animal control when his family moved, but they did leave his papers.  He was bred from Wolfriver Malinois; his sire Sky of Vitosha;  his dame is Annabella Mae.  DDVA
